Northern Counties Off Road Triallers Club was founded during the middle months of 1994 by a small group of keen Off-Roaders. Barry Gilman and Alan Turner were the lead founding members of the new Club and took on the roles of Chairman and Secretary.

NCORTC held its very first Event at Swalesmoor on the 19th February 1995 with a total of 25 entrants competing in the Trial set up by the Chairman. A large crowd of spectators came to watch and support the Event making it a successful start for the new Club.

After the Trial the Chairman, Barry, wrote in the first newsletter for the Club thanking all those that supported the first Event and that ‘it was a great day and all members should be proud of themselves, let’s hope the enthusiasm stays.’

NCORTC had a successful first year as a Club, gaining new members and enjoying different Trials set out each month at new sites. In February 1996, one year after the Club held its’ first Trial, NCORTC returned to Swalesmoor, this time with 41 entrants competing in the Event. The Club went from strength to strength and by Feb 1997 there were 48 drivers competing. Co-Drivers were signing up to sit in and many spectators turned up to watch the Events.

In the year 2000 NCORTC entered the Northern CCV Challenge, where Clubs from all over the County, including NCORTC, Pennine, Red Rose, Humberside and Lincolnshire Landrover Clubs competed in inter-club Events. Each competing Club hosted an Event at a site of their choice. There were 14 Members from NCORTC who entered the NCCV Challenge, and the Club held their Event at Haggate on 13th August 2000. There were a total of 5 rounds with several NCORTC members taking podium positions in their Classes: Mark Barrett took 2nd place in Class 1, Kevin Bower and Gareth Bower took 1st and 3rd Places respectively in Class 2 and Adam Ogden and John West took 1st and 3rd places respectively in class 4. The overall winner of the NCCV Challenge was Kevin Bower with a score of 90.

2001 saw the outbreak of the ‘foot and mouth’ disease and so with the exception of the February Trial at Haggate, the Club decided to cancel all the planned Events for the 2001 Trialling season.

The Club started Trialling again in the February 2002 with 47 drivers entering the first Event at Tong. Over the years the Club has evolved, losing and gaining members, seeing new faces on the committee, bringing in new ideas, changing and adapting motors and using and playing on many new sites around the County.

NCORTC is mainly a CCV Club these days but are keen to search out those eager drivers who are waiting to take their RTV motor out for a play. The first 6 gates in our sections are novice friendly, with the latter 6 aimed more at those determined drivers who want a little bit more of a challenge!
